Lauterbrunnen lies at an altitude of 812 m above sea level, nestled between gigantic rock faces at the entrance to a spectacular valley with 72 waterfalls. You have already completed the first 20 kilometres of the route as you pass through the centre of the village. Enjoy the great atmosphere along the route and let the applause carry you. Soak up this moment and look forward to the other challenges until you reach the finish line. On your way to the half-marathon point, let your gaze wander to the right to the gigantic Staubbach Falls, the highest free-falling waterfall in Switzerland - and recover from the stresses and strains of the first half of the route on the following kilometres. After the passage from Lauterbrunnen, the route slopes slightly downwards to the Trümmelbach Falls and back again to Lauterbrunnen, where "The Wall", the ascent to Wengen, another highlight of the Jungfrau-Marathon route awaits you. On the way to "The Wall", use the opportunity to fill your energy stores with a gel and isotonic drinks. At the same time, get in the mood for the steep ascent. Look forward to it, and be proud of what you have already accomplished. Because by the time you start "The Wall", you have already passed 25 kilometres of the route and with every step you take, the goal comes a little closer.
"The Wall", one of the most demanding sections of the Jungfrau Marathon, stretches from Lauterbrunnen up to Wengen. On this 5 km long stretch 22 serpentine curves await you, which show the steepness and the difference in altitude of 478 meters of the slope.
We recommend that you approach this slowly. Because if you already overpower yourself in the initial sections of "The Wall", you may have to pay tribute to it in the further course. "The Wall" knows no mercy, but at the same time fascinates and makes the heart of the mountain runner beat faster.
With a look down into the Lauterbrunnen Valley, this section of the route gives you the opportunity to review the run you have completed so far. Let yourself be inspired and propelled by the gigantic rock faces that surround the valley. Keep fighting.
